Silicon Valley Jewish Community Condemns Horrific Violence Against Muslims
March 15, 2019
The Jewish community of Silicon Valley firmly condemns the senseless acts of violence that terrorized two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand on Friday. Our Jewish community stands in solidarity with the Muslim community against any racial, religious, and ethnic hate or terrorism. Our devastated hearts go out to the families who lost their loved ones during this tragedy as we send healing prayers to those in recovery.
When senseless violence erupts in our community, particularly in a time and place of worship, our source of center and unity is corroded. We know this too well from the Tree of Life attacks in Pittsburgh that shook our community’s sense of security. As Muslim community leaders stood strong with us, we now stand strong with them in the fight against white supremacy, Islamophobia, and the general attitudes that lead to inhuman behavior.
We encourage you to reach out to your Muslim friends, co-workers, and neighbors at this time of vulnerability.
Our friends at the Islamic Networks Group have provided the following ways to support their community:
- Consider spreading the word about a campaign to donate funds to the affected victims and families
- Offer to provide security if needed at mosques throughout the Bay Area
- Check out their online resources about Muslims and Islam and feel free to share them with your communities.
“Working together, we will overcome Islamophobia and all forms of bigotry while building more peaceful and harmonious communities.” -Islamic Networks Group
