Local Holocaust Survivor Featured in The Carmel Pine Cone

Our recent County of Santa Clara Holocaust Ceremony featured Lotte Marcus, a local Holocaust survivor, who told her personal and touching story of survival through a visa that was issued to her by "Chinese Schindler," Feng Shan Ho.

In the article, "Help Can Come in the Nick of Time from the most Unexpected Places," written by Elaine Hesser, published in The Carmel Pine Cone, Lotte's story is captured in full detail:

"LOTTE MARCUS’ childhood started out like a chapter from a storybook. Born in Vienna of 1927, she was the only child of parents she said had “a wonderful marriage.” They had a large extended family, and Marcus grew up swimming, ice skating, dancing and taking summer vacations in the mountains where she learned how to milk cows and work with goats. Although ripples of the Great Depression in the United States spread to post-World-War-I Europe, her memories were happy. Then came 1938."
