The Plot Against America
Philip Roth’s award-winning 2004 novel The Plot Against America, has been chosen as the One Bay One Book for 5779. It is a stirring work of alternative history that imagines the victory of aviation hero and isolationist Charles Lindbergh over Franklin Roosevelt in the 1940 presidential election, and portrays its impact through the experiences of a working-class Jewish family in Newark, New Jersey. The Plot Against America is a profoundly moving and eminently readable novel, and we are confident that it will serve as a starting point for significant conversations about family, fear, and what it means to be Jewish in America—then and now.
