In this series of 1 hour bio-musicals you’ll learn the stories and enjoy the tunes of some of our favorite Broadway Shows.
This month's theme is the 1980's.
In 1982, the musical "Cats," composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber and directed by Trevor Nunn, reshaped the Broadway musical. It was high tech, aerobic dancing, and heavy duty marketing. Cats logos appeared on everything from baseball caps to stuffed toys. Money was often the primary motive. Mega musicals were in, with their high tech, special effects, stage hydraulics, and pop rhythms. "Les Miz," "Starlight Express," and "Phantom of the Opera," ran for years. Meanwhile, Stephen Sondheim quietly created "Into the Woods." Battle on.
